Character’s Full Name: Zyris
Character’s Known Name(s): Zyx; Speaker of the Elements; Voice of the Ghost Wind
Hair Color, Length & Style: Her hair is dark brown and shorn unevenly, hanging just past her shoulders. When she travels it is kept tied back in a ponytail and once settled, she leaves it to blow wild and free.
Eye Color: Her eyes are deep blue and reminiscent of the ocean, if any existed.
Skin Color: She has a darkly tanned skin that may have been once fair.
Physical Build: She is of a medium build with lean muscle and has the full soft curves of femininity.
Distinguishing Marks & tattoos: She has deep blue swirling style tribal tattoos. The first set surround her ankles and then travel up the outside of her calves and up to her thighs and run around to meet in the center of her lower back. The second set start around her wrists and run along the outsides of her arms and then across the back of her shoulders to meet at the back of her neck. The final section is a series of swirls that connect the tattoos directly down her spine. She often wears blue face paints and paints designs around her cheeks and eyes.
Immediate Goal(s): The Spirits have conscripted her to find a new gathering of Champions and guide them in accordance with the Visions she will be provided.
Long Range Goal(s): The Spirits have given her a Vision that she will become a Rainbringer to empower the Spirits of Elemental Water to become stronger and establish a new permanent presence on Athas.
Personality & Traits
Temperament: She is very adaptable to the events around her and impulsive, preferring to take action as opposed to just reacting to things. Once she focuses on a task she pursues it to its completion and devoting all of her resources and abilities to it.
Quirks/Mannerisms: She is very animated when she speaks, moving her body and arms and hands to emphasize points she is trying to make. She also tends to pace, mumble quietly to herself and generally performs most rituals naked.
Peculiarities/Flaws: She has a short fuse and is quick to switch emotions in all directions. Be those emotions anger, sadness, happiness or any other, she they change rapidly and make her unstable.
Greatest Strength: Her ability to focus on a given task and ensure its conclusion.
Greatest Weakness: Her mistrust and disregard of people.
Colors: Her favorite colors are all shades of blue, culminating in mix of blue and purple.
Battle Cry or Expression: She often uses the expression, “By the Will of the Spirits.”
Entertainment: She loves bardic songs, ballads and stories.
Hobbies: She loves to dance, especially around a bonfire, under the stars and naked.
Known Enemies: The Silver Hands Tribe seeks her death and offers a reward for her capture.
Living Relatives: Risti, her elven mother is still alive and banished from the tribe. She currently wanders among other elven tribes.
Important Friends/Allies: Alum, Wise Man of the Black Mountain, her teacher, mentor and surrogate father. The various elven tribes (except the Silver Hands) accord her hearth rights and safe passage.
Legacy: She was touched by the Elemental Spirits when she was born. This has caused her to gain the power of prophecy (which has some significant differences from the power of prophecy granted by gods). She has no control when a prophetic vision or prophetic dream will occur. The Elemental Spirits will also speak through her and can possess her to accomplish a singular task.
Background: Zyris was born to a human father and an elven mother. She was born on the Summer Solstice under the full moon and in an open field during a brief shower; anointing her birth with water. They sought refuge with the Silver Hands since her mother had powerful healing abilities. The Silver Hands welcomed them in and things were good with the clan until Zyris started to have visions and dreams of terrible things that would come true.
Increasing confrontations started to occur over the source of her visions. They reached their apex when her father was killed by one of the Chief’s personal guards. The Chief grabbed her to take her away and she scratched the Chief down the right side of his face. Something about the wound she gave him prevented the scars from ever being removed. She ran to her mother, who protected her and they fled from the tribe, banished and with prices on their heads. Risti took her daughter to the Wise Man of the Black Mountain and left her there to be protected and taught while she led the Silver Hand pursuers and other bounty hunters far away from her daughter. They have not seen each other since that fateful day.
The Wise Man of the Black Mountain was also known as Alum. He was a shaman whose tribe was slain and he was the only survivor. He was also slightly touched by the Elemental Spirits, but his gift and the grief of being the only survivor of his clan also made him slightly mad. He raised Zyris though and was actually the one to coin her nickname. He taught her his ways and crafts and then gave her into the care of one of the wasteland tribes that was always on the move.
While she traveled with the small trader wasteland tribe, she used the gifts given to her to help them avoid great dangers and prosper. Eventually word of her gift spread and the Silver Hands tribe pursued her again and forced her to leave the tribe that helped finish raising her. Alone, she wandered the deserts of Athas after that, keeping away from those hunting her.
She would often travel from various tribe to tribe, never lingering very long with any of them so that the Silver Hands were unable to keep track of her. She learned to utilize her gift more subtly so that the word of what she was doing didn’t’ spread as quickly or as far or went unnoticed at all. She would still use her gift often to help the elven tribes and as such, was awarded with the rights of an ally of the tribes and always, safe passage.
When the Dragon King of Tyr was slain she was visited by the Spirits and granted visions and dreams of some of the things to come, as well as a gathering of champions who would have a chance to first, right a great injustice and secondly, help usher in further healing for Athas and perhaps slow down the frightening speed at which water was disappearing from the great underground sources. She set off the next morning to find these prospective champions and offer the guidance that only she and her gifts could provide.
